Throughout my entire career, as a 30-year law enforcement officer, as a mayor and councilmember, and now as your Assemblymember, I have fought to protect the health, safety, and well being of the public. That’s why I have publically announced my strong opposition to California’s Proposition 64, which would legalize marijuana for recreational use.
While I fully support a patient’s right to use marijuana for medicinal purposes, I strongly believe that the legalization of marijuana for recreational use will negatively affect our children. Too often, I hear complaints from my constituents about the use of marijuana at our junior high and high schools and I truly believe that Proposition 64 will disproportionately lead to the increased use of marijuana among our youth.
That being said, in February of this year, my campaign committee received a check from “Ghost Management Group” in the amount of $2,500, which has since been refunded. Upon closer examination, it appears that, Ghost Management Group is actually doing business as “Weedmaps Media,” a pro-marijuana legalization group.
As your Assemblymember, I want to assure you that I will continue to advocate for protecting the health and safety of the public, and most importantly our children and remain steadfastly opposed to Proposition 64 and the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Assemblymember, District 9
