Councilmember Jim Cooper on the Issues

Jim Cooper has worked throughout much of the 9th Assembly District for 30 years.

He knows what it takes to keep our communities – Elk Grove, Galt, Lodi and Sacramento – healthy, clean and economically vibrant.

As a Elk Grove’s Founding Mayor and a 14-year Councilmember, Jim is proud of his city, which has received numerous awards:

  • 10th best Midsized city in the USA to raise your children
  • 36th Safest City in US with a population over 100K according the the FBI
  • 28th in the Country for “best public schools”
  • 7th in the Country for Public Parks per Capita

Lifelong Education and Training

Early childhood education, vocational education and job training for students and adults are essential. We need to make classes smaller and college more affordable.

Helping Small Businesses Thrive

Small businesses are key to our local economy. I’ll help expand small business loans, cut unnecessary red tape, and make it easier for local businesses to secure state contracts.

Clean Air and Water

I’ll continue to fight for the environment – for cleaner air and water, open space, reduced traffic congestion, and new green energy sources.

Increasing Public Safety

I know what it takes to keep our communities safe. With “prisoner realignment” releasing more offenders into our communities, we need innovative, comprehensive ways to protect, punish, and rehabilitate.
